Freestyle Riders Make Sir Isaac Newton Look Bad
Freestyle motocross is the world¿s fastest growing Extreme Sport and its high-flying acrobatics are featured during such popular events as the X-Games and the Gravity Games. Part of the FreestyleMX.com Tour, the Domino¿s Pizza Freestyle Motocross Championship brings many of the sport¿s top riders to the Charlotte area for the first time.
Heading the list is 30-year-old Clifford Adoptante. Known as ¿The Flyin¿ Hawaiian,¿ Adoptante is one of the sport¿s original innovators and is among its most popular riders. His achievements include a gold medal in the Planet X Games and silver medals in the X-Games and the Gravity Games.
¿I don¿t know quite everything, but I¿ve got a big bag of tricks,¿ said Adoptante, who has been competing in freestyle motocross since 1986.
Other riders scheduled to compete include ¿Back Flip Boy¿ Jeff Fehr, Doug Parsons, Jeremy Carter, Matt Buyten and John Distler.
In addition to the freestyle competition where riders will perform such radical tricks as the Can Can, the Heel Clicker, the Superman and the Hart Attack, the action-packed program includes a high-jump contest and a big-air showdown.
The evening begins with a rider autograph session from 6 to 7 p.m. on the concourse behind the main grandstand. Freestyle competition starts immediately after opening ceremonies at 7:15 p.m.
Adult reserved tickets are $15 in advance with children 12 and under admitted for just $5. Adult tickets are $5 more the day of the event and parking at The Dirt Track is always free. Tickets can be purchased online at www.charlottemotorspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-455-FANS.
