Children ranging in age from 2 to 11 will experience the thrill of motorsports competition Tuesday night as Lowe¿s Motor Speedway¿s Summer Shootout Series hosts the second Kids¿ Power Wheels Championship event of the season.

Reaching speeds of nearly 5 mph, the youngsters will battle wheel-to-wheel over a specially constructed course on the frontstretch of the track¿s quarter-mile paved oval. More than two dozen young racers are expected to participate and the winner will take home a four-foot-tall trophy.

Power Wheels is a brand of battery-operated ride-on vehicles designed for use on sidewalks, grass and hard surfaces. Dozens of models are available, including Harley-Davidson and Kawasaki Ninja motorcycles, a Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck and the extremely popular Jeep Wrangler.

There is no entry fee for the Kids¿ Power Wheels Championship, but all competitors and their families must have an event ticket. Participants must be pre-entered to be eligible for competition. Entry forms can be obtained by contacting the Lowe¿s Motor Speedway Events Department at (704) 455-3205.

In addition to the Kids¿ Power Wheels race, the penultimate round of the 10th annual Summer Shootout Series will see the continuation of championship point battles in seven divisions of Legends Car, Bandolero and Thunder Roadster racing. More than 150 race cars are expected to fill the pit area.

The Domino¿s Pizza Ball Toss, where fans can win tickets to the Oct. 11 UAW-GM Quality 500 NASCAR Winston Cup event, is also on tap.

Admission is just $5 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 with kids under 6 free. Tickets are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5A the night of the event.
