Car Owner Stewart Files 2 Entries for USAC Race
Tony Stewart Racing of Brownsburg, Ind., has filed entries for USAC sprint car point leader J.J. Yeley of Phoenix and Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif. Yeley will drive the No. 20 Mopar-sponsored Twister chassis while Kruseman is slated to pilot the No. 21 Mopar-backed Kunz sprinter.
The Charlotte Dirt Doubleheader Nationals is the season finale for the nomadic USAC sprint car series and it appears as if Stewart will claim the car owner championship in his debut year. Driving for Stewart, Yeley has been a dominant force on both dirt and paved tracks, posting 13 victories in 32 races.
Stewart¿s accomplishments in USAC¿s open-wheel ranks during the 1990s placed him in the national motorsports spotlight. He is the only driver to win all three USAC championships¿Silver Crown, sprint car and midget¿in the same year (1995), but could see Yeley accomplish the same feat this season. Yeley has clinched the Silver Crown championship and leads both the sprint car and midget standings.
¿I¿d love to share that record with him, especially from the standpoint of being able to be a part of it with him as a car owner,¿ Stewart said. ¿Nothing would make me prouder than for him to tie my record and be beside me in the record books.¿
The Charlotte Dirt Doubleheader Nationals, which also includes the late model stock cars of the O¿Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series, is part of UAW-GM Quality 500 Week that culminates with the inaugural nighttime running of the UAW-GM Quality 500 NASCAR Winston Cup event on Saturday night, Oct. 11, at Lowe¿s Motor Speedway.
Tickets for the Charlotte Dirt Doubleheader Nationals start at just $15 and can be obtained online at www.charlottemotorspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-455-FANS.
