Rocky Mount-based RBC Centura Banks has signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement to be "The Official Bank of Charlotte Motor Speedway." Financial terms were not disclosed.

The deal grants RBC Centura exclusive rights to incorporate Lowe¿s Motor Speedway in its marketing efforts and to participate in promotional events at the track. In addition to the year-round brand exposure afforded through on-site signage at the famed 1.5-mile superspeedway, the bank will be the exclusive presenting sponsor of the "RBC Centura Drivers Compound," an on-site concierge service that offers a broad variety of amenities to race car drivers, team owners and their families. In addition, an RBC Centura ATM machine will be permanently installed at the speedway, with 10 additional ones brought in on the days of racing events.

"More than one million race fans, car show enthusiasts and tourists visit Charlotte Motor Speedway each year, and millions more across the country watch the races on television," said Kel Landis, chief executive officer of RBC Centura Banks, Inc. "NASCAR has become the second-most popular professional spectator sport in the country, and this marketing agreement grants RBC Centura significant opportunities to raise its visibility among these constituents. We look forward to a long and exciting partnership with Charlotte Motor Speedway."

Based in metro Charlotte, the 165,000-seat Charlotte Motor Speedway is the third-largest sports venue in the United States and the number one-ranked NASCAR track, according to Athlon Sports' Racing magazine. Locally based businesses that serve fans and support the more than 100 racing teams based in this region contribute significantly to local economies.

Nearly one in three American adults identifies themselves as NASCAR fans. Indeed, NASCAR races often draw larger crowds than the Super Bowl, World Series or an NBA Finals game. NASCAR ranks third in terms of professional sports licensed sales, and is the second-ranked regular season televised sport. This partnership will facilitate RBC Centura's entry into this burgeoning specialty market.

¿NASCAR is big business, which is why innovative companies such as RBC Centura are getting involved,¿ said H.A. ¿Humpy¿ Wheeler, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. ¿As the 'Official Bank of Charlotte Motor Speedway', RBC Centura is afforded unique opportunities to raise its visibility among NASCAR fans and pursue business ventures with the growing number of Fortune 500 companies involved in racing.¿
