Ricky Elliott mowed down the competition Saturday night as the Seaford, Del., driver scored a convincing victory in the Ferris 100 presented by DynoMax at The Dirt Track @ Lowe¿s Motor Speedway.

Elliott has been competing in the big-block DIRT modifieds for nearly 15 years, but the $10,000 triumph was his first victory in an Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRT Series event.

¿This is a brand new team and we¿ve only been out four times this year,¿ Elliott said. ¿The motor was just flawless, but we lost a cylinder with two to go and I¿m like, oh my God, it¿s going to get away from us.

¿This is just great¿here in Charlotte in front of all these fans,¿ an emotional Elliott continued. ¿I¿m tickled to death.¿

Steve Paine, who started from the pole, was able to close on Elliott at times in lapped traffic, but the Waterloo, N.Y., driver had to settle for the $7,000 runner-up prize. Sixth-starting Matt Sheppard finished third.

Kenny Tremont charged forward from the 18th-starting spot to finish fourth with Brett Hearn rounding out the top five in the 33-car field.

Paine and Tim McCreadie led the early laps as Elliott moved up from the eight-starting spot. Elliott was second after only 10 trips around the four-tenths-mile clay oval and he drove around McCreadie on lap 14 to take command. Once in front, Elliott sliced through traffic with precision and was 3.87 seconds ahead of Paine at the checkered flag.

Paine, Elliott, Danny Johnson, Billy Decker and Andy Bachetti topped the eight-lap heat races for the big-block modifieds while Jimmy Chester and Chris Shultz posted easy victories in the two consolation races.

Gary Tompkins, winner of the series season opener one week earlier in Hagerstown, Md., topped the 54-car field in time trials with a track record lap of 15.317 seconds.

The Charlotte Pro Stock Challenge turned into a brother act as Jamie McGannon held off older brother Bob McGannon to win the 20-lap feature for the full-bodied stock cars. Pete Gulick was third in the 28-car field with Steve Miller and Ron Morin next under the checkered flag.

Glenn Donnelly, founder and president of DIRT Motorsports, was inducted into The Dirt Track Walk of Fame during pre-race ceremonies. Patterned after the Court of Legends at Lowe¿s Motor Speedway, The Dirt Track Walk of Fame recognizes outstanding contributions to short-track racing.

The Dirt Track @ Lowe¿s Motor Speedway will return to action May 28-29 with the Southern Showdown Championship featuring the late model stock cars of the O¿Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series. Reserved seats can be obtained by calling 1-800-455-FANS or online at www.charlottemotorspeedway.com.
