The dictionary defines road hog as one whose vehicle overlaps the traffic lane used by another motorist.

It is also a fitting description of the slam-bam Road Hawg racing division that roars back into action Tuesday night during round six of the 10-week Hardee¿s Summer Shootout at Lowe¿s Motor Speedway.

Introduced to put the stock back into stock car racing, the Road Hawgs are production automobiles that have had only safety modifications. Chevrolet Monte Carlos, Pontiac Bonnevilles and Buick LeSabres are among the Detroit-built creations that bang fenders and trade paint in the wild Road Hawg races.

The Charlotte 49ers mascot, Norm the Niner, is also scheduled to be on hand Tuesday night, entertaining grandstand patrons along with his speedway mascot buddy, Lug Nut.

A full slate of Legends Car, Bandolero and Thunder Roadster racing rounds out the card with nearly 170 race cars expected to jam the pit area.

The 10-week Hardee¿s Summer Shootout runs every Tuesday night through Aug. 17.

Admission is just $5 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free. Parking is free. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with preliminary action starting at 5:25. Feature racing begins at 7:30 p.m. and will conclude by 10:15.
