Transaurus, the world¿s only jet-powered dinosaur, will wreak its unique brand of car-crunching havoc Saturday night, Sept. 18, when the fire-breathing mechanical monster invades the Golden Corral Dirt Late Model Championship at The Dirt Track @ Lowe¿s Motor Speedway.

Mounted on the chassis of an M-4 Military Personnel Carrier and driven by a 600-horsepower big-block Chevrolet engine, Transaurus is 35 feet tall, measures 51 feet from head to tail and obliterates the scales at 18½ tons. It is capable of speeds approaching 50 mph.

Transaurus has nearly 1,000 feet of veins and arteries that feed its mechanical heart. Pumping at 50 gallons per minute, Transaurus¿ blood pressure exceeds 2,500 pounds per square inch, giving its mammoth claws more than five tons of metal-crunching power.

Transaurus also battles a constant case of heartburn, causing it to belch flames that destroy virtually everything in its path.

In addition to Transaurus¿ mechanical mayhem, the Golden Corral Dirt Late Model Championship features a full slate of racing for the late model stock cars of the O¿Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series. The evening concludes with a 40-lap feature with $10,000 earmarked for the winner.

The event will be run in conjunction with the Sept. 16-19 Food Lion AutoFair, the world¿s largest automotive extravaganza, at Lowe¿s Motor Speedway.

Tickets for the Sept. 18 Golden Corral Dirt Late Model Championship are only $18 in advance for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. They can be obtained by calling 1-800-455-FANS or online at www.charlottemotorspeedway.com. Parking for all events at The Dirt Track is free and adult tickets will be $2 more the day of the event.
