Honeymoon Includes Visit to Souvenir Blow-Out
Gopsill and Simko, who relocated to Salisbury from Florida in September, will exchange wedding vows on Wednesday, Nov. 24. The newlyweds will celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends and then head to Lowe¿s Motor Speedway for the Souvenir Blow-Out on Friday, Nov. 26. They will also return to the legendary 1.5-mile superspeedway the next day to participate in the Richard Petty Driving Experience¿s ride-along program, completing their ¿high-speed honeymoon.¿
The Souvenir Blow-Out, which runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., offers those spending a minimum of $50, or making a $25 donation to Speedway Children¿s Charities, the opportunity to drive their personal vehicle two laps around the legendary 1.5-mile superspeedway.
¿We¿re really looking forward to the Souvenir Blow-Out on Friday,¿ said Gopsill. ¿Yvonne¿s got a ¿97 Dodge Avenger and she wants to drive it around the track.¿
Asked if his new wife will take full advantage of the bargains offered during this once-a-year shopping extravaganza, Gopsill said, ¿I¿m sure she will!¿
In addition to numerous track souvenirs, the Souvenir Blow-Out offers a wide selection of driver apparel along with memorabilia from the inaugural Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup. Numerous SpongeBob SquarePants souvenirs produced in conjunction with The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 300 will also be available. Prices during the Souvenir Blow-Out will start at just $1 with T-shirts selling for as little as $3.
As part of this annual shopping event, NASCAR souvenir rigs will blanket the track¿s front entrance offering drastically reduced prices on a wide variety of memorabilia, T-shirts, hats, posters and die-cast cars. Over two dozen vendors featuring merchandise from top NASCAR NEXTEL Cup drivers are expected.
While planning the couple¿s post-nuptial activities, Gopsill recalled a newspaper ad he had spotted on his fiancée¿s refrigerator.
¿She had an ad abut the driving school where you actually drive the cars,¿ Gopsill recalled. ¿That¿s a little costly right now, but when I told her about the ride-along program I thought she was going to go through the roof. When she found out she was going to travel nearly 160 mph in a race car, she got really excited.¿
When Gopsill called the speedway to inquire about the Richard Petty Driving Experience, he learned about the Souvenir Blow-Out and the opportunity to drive around the speedway.
¿We¿re really looking forward to both days,¿ said Gopsill, noting the Souvenir Blow-Out will be the first time he and Simko have visited Lowe¿s Motor Speedway.
