Automotive aficionados attending the Sept. 15-18 Food Lion AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway will be able to satisfy their need for speed as The Speedway Club hosts race car test drives.

Conducted on the speedway's one-fifth-mile paved oval, aspiring racers 18 and older will be able to wheel a sleek Thunder Roadster or manhandle a powerful Legends Car while those 8 and older can test their driving skills in a Bandolero.

"From 8 to 80, we have a car for everyone," said Susan Paré, director of sales for The Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway. "From the novice to the experienced driver, a test drive is great fun."

Test drives will be available for Food Lion AutoFair ticket holders from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, and Saturday, Sept. 17. The 10-lap test drives cost $50 for a Bandolero; $65 for a Legends Car; and $85 for a Thunder Roadster.

Food Lion AutoFair is the nation's largest automotive extravaganza. The four-day event includes a car show featuring various makes and models from more than 50 clubs; thousands of vendor spaces offering a plethora of automotive parts and memorabilia; and a collector car auction conducted by Tom Mack. A car corral, which completely circles the 1.5-mile superspeedway, features nearly 2,000 vehicles of all makes and models that are available for sale or trade.
