The Christmas Tree Lighting at Charlotte Motor Speedway takes place Tuesday, Dec. 6. in front of the Smith Tower. The Festivities start at 5:45 p.m. with the formal program starting at 6:15 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony that will include lighting a 50-foot Christmas tree; holiday music; hot chocolate and apple cider; an appearance by Lug Nut, the world's fastest mascot; and Santa arriving in a stock car.

North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall will join Speedway Motorsports Chairman and CEO Bruton Smith to light a one-of-a-kind 50-foot-tall Christmas tree at Charlotte Motor Speedway and distribute $505,728 to 68 local organizations on behalf of Speedway Children's Charities. The money will assist nonprofit charities making a direct and significant impact in the lives of children in need.

Bruton Smith, chairman and chief executive officer of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. and founder of Speedway Children's Charities, will present checks to representatives from each of the local organizations. North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, Charlotte Motor Speedway President and General Manager H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler and Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Tom Sadler, executive director of Speedway Children's Charities, will assist Smith in distributing the funds.
