Clint Bowyer Enters Jani-King LM Race
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series title contender Clint Bowyer will return to his racing roots Wednesday night, Oct.10, when the Emporia, Kan., native competes in the Jani-King Southern Showdown at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Presented by Ferris Commercial Mowers, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series event kicks off Bank of America 500 Week and features a possible $30,000 first-place prize for the winner of the 50-lap feature.
Prior to joining Richard Childress Racing in 2004, Bowyer won numerous races and championships on both dirt and paved short tracks in the Midwest. Included among his titles is the 2002 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Midwest Region crown he earned while racing on the dirt oval at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., and the pavement of I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Mo.
Bowyer, who owns the No. 07 Jack Daniel's late model he is scheduled to drive in the Jani-King Southern Showdown, had a very impressive run earlier this year at The Dirt Track. Starting 16th in a crate model event prior to May's Coca-Cola 600, Bowyer charged through the field and finished second to his NASCAR team owner's grandson, Austin Dillon.
After finishing 17th in points during his rookie NEXTEL Cup season, Bowyer qualified for this year's Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and promptly solidified his championship hopes by claiming his first series victory at New Hampshire International Speedway.
The Jani-King Southern Showdown's unique format rewards the winner according to the number of positions advanced during the main event. The top-three finishers in each of the six heat races advance directly to the main event and they will draw for starting positions. If the driver who wins the 50-lap finale submitted an official entry form prior to Sept. 15, he will receive the $10,000 first-place prize along with an amount equal to $1,000 multiplied by his starting position.
Other early entries for the Oct. 10 Jani-King Southern Showdown include NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver Ryan Newman, Scott Bloomquist, Chub Frank, Jimmy Owens, Steve Francis, Josh Richards, Steve Shaver, Clint Smith, Earl Pearson Jr., Mike Balzano and Ricky Weeks.
If purchased in advance, adult tickets are $25 for adults and just $10 for children 12 and under. Reserved seats for this race are also available as part of the four-race $99 SUPER Ticket which includes Bojangles' Pole Night on Thursday night, Oct. 11; the Dollar General 300 on Friday night, Oct. 12; and the Bank of America 500 on Saturday night, Oct.13.
