For the first time in Charlotte Motor Speedway history fans will see eight-wheel racing on the famed superspeedway's frontstrech as the Charlotte Roller Girls invade the Summer Shootout Series.

The Charlotte Roller Girls, an all-female roller derby league, will hold an exhibition bout tomorrow evening during round nine of the series. Normally skating on a flat track, the five degree banking of the speedway's straightaway will pose new challenges for the competitors.

"We will be skating on the banked frontstrech, which is a bit different than the flat tracks we normally compete on," said league president Cress Barnes. "Racing and roller derby have a lot in common, both turn left and the leaders try and lap the field. The fans are in for a real treat."

In addition to the Charlotte Roller Girls, CRASHCars, the unique entry-level racing machines inspired by "CARS" movie creator John Lasseter, return for round nine of the Summer Shootout Series.

Virtually any full or mid-sized convertible, coupe or sedan can be transformed into a CRASHCar. Station wagons, limousines, Checker Cabs, El Caminos and even hearses are eligible, while trucks and sport utility vehicles are not permitted.

Each CRASHCar must have a cartoon-style theme and feature brightly colored paint and graphics. The CRASHCar rulebook is designed to maximize safety while minimizing costs.

Due to inclement weather, speedway officials were forced to postpone the majority of racing last Tuesday during round eight of the Summer Shootout Series. All feature races that were not completed last week will run tomorrow evening. The make-up features will begin at 5:00 p.m., with round nine racing immediately following. Spectator gates will open early this week at 4:50 p.m.

Fans who present their ticket stub from last week will receive a $2 discount on the price of admission tomorrow.

Summer Shootout Series admission is just $7 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free. Tickets are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event. Parking is free.
