Danny Furr has been named Charlotte Motor Speedway's 2009 Employee of the Year. Presented annually, the award recognizes an individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty in executing his or her responsibilities.

The winner is determined by a vote of the speedway's executive committee and is selected from 12 Employee of the Month award recipients.

As the 2009 Employee of the Year recipient, Furr received a $1,000 bonus, a reserved parking space and the keys to a Toyota Camry hybrid pace car for use throughout 2010.

"Danny has such a passion for the speedway and puts so much heart into his work," said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. "He is dedicated to keeping our facilities in the best possible condition and is always willing to do whatever it takes to help the fans enjoy their race experience."

A Concord, N.C., native, Furr joined the speedway's staff in 2002. His main duties are preparing zMAX Dragway's racing surface and care of the speedway's landscaping, including making sure the grass on the frontstretch is well manicured. Furr's other responsibilities are pressure washing and day-to-day maintenance around the speedway.

"If I was an actor and this was an Academy Award, it wouldn't mean any more to me than receiving Employee of the Year at Charlotte Motor Speedway," said Furr when he accepted his award. "I love this place!"
