The focus shifted from Charlotte Motor Speedway to The Dirt Track at Charlotte Friday night as Paul McMahan claimed his second win at the lightning-fast, four-tenths-mile clay oval in the Circle K NOS Energy Outlaw Showdown.

McMahan started the 30-lap World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series A-Main in fifth place, with Daryn Pittman sitting on the pole. Pittman, with five wins in the season already under his belt, led from the start of the race, staying in the top spot through one caution and two wrecks that caused red flag situations.

As the race progressed, McMahan steadily moved through the top five and found himself in second, ready to battle Pittman for the point position on a lap 11 restart. When the green flag waved, Pittman pulled out ahead, but McMahan was able to reel him in, stealing the lead in Turn 2 on lap 17.

In the end, the Elk Grove, Calif., native was able to hold off Pittman and a hard-charging Kyle Larson to take the checkered flag and win his second-career Circle K NOS Energy Outlaw Showdown. Rounding out the top five was three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart and 20-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion Steve Kinser.

"My car was working really well on the bottom there. Barry Jackson did a heck of a job giving me a race car," said McMahan. "I have to thank Chad Clemens for giving me the opportunity to drive this awesome race car. It's been a lot of fun all year long."

The three eight-lap sprint car heat races were won by Ed Lynch, Jr., McMahan and Dave Blaney. Kasey Kahne Racing's Cody Darrah took the checkers in the B-Main.

In the NDRA Crate Late Model Series A-Main, Greg Clark started in the pole position, but after the dust settled in the 25-lap race, Mount Airy, N.C.'s, own Ryan Atkins took home the trophy in his No. 9 Circle K Crate Late Model.

At the drop of the green flag, Atkins passed Clark for the top spot going into Turn 1 and stretched out his lead quickly. Atkins retained the lead, but it wasn't long before his teammate Matt Long and Rambo Franklin caught him in a battle for the lead on lap 12. Atkins held off their attempts but Long was determined and almost made the pass going into Turn 2 on lap 18. In the end, Atkins held off the advances of his teammate to lead every lap and take home the victory. Franklin finished third, followed by Greg Clark and Jonathan Davenport.

"Circle K puts the race on, and to be able to run one-two with the Circle K cars is a pretty awesome feeling," said Atkins after his win. "I kind of got worried there and I started pushing the right front when I saw Matt. So when I did, I started blocking a little."

Winning the two NDRA last chance qualifiers were Ben Watkins and Donald Bradsher.
