Area Scouts to Camp in Charlotte Motor Speedway's Infield Following Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash Presented by Polar Pop Aug. 11
Summer coming to an end means two things for kids in the Charlotte area, the start of the school year and the return of the Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash presented by Polar Pop at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. And for area boy scouts and cub scouts, it means the return of the annual Monster Truck Scout Camporee on Saturday, Aug. 11.
Back for the sixth consecutive year, the Scout Camporee provides scouts and their parents with an evening of monster truck madness at The Dirt Track followed by a sleepover under the stars across the street, in the infield of Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Neil Porter, co-pack committee chair of Cub Scout Pack 10 from Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius, N.C, is returning for a second year with a group of 15 scouts and 13 adults.
“Scouts love monster trucks and they love camping, so this is a unique experience to do both,” said Porter. “And to camp on the infield of Charlotte Motor Speedway; the pack is excited!”
The sleepover package includes a ticket to the Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash, a camp-out in the Charlotte Motor Speedway infield, a commemorative sleepover patch and a light breakfast Sunday morning.
Tickets for the sleepover package are $15 for children ages 13 and under and $27 for adults. Tickets for scouts who only want to attend the Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash are just $9 for children and $23 for adults. The deadline to purchase tickets and sit with other scouts is Monday, Aug. 6 and the deadline for admission at the discounted price is Aug. 10.
To date, more than 180 scouts and parents from 28 packs and troops will be attending the Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash and more than 100 scouts and parents will be staying to camp.
The Aug. 11 Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash presented by Polar Pop will include appearances from last year’s winners Avenger and Hot Tamale, plus veterans Brutus, Equalizer, Samson, Stone Crusher and War Wizard. Making their Dirt Track at Charlotte debut will be Hooked, Spike and Wrecking Crew.
The monstrous machines will compete in head-to-head elimination challenges on the longest monster truck course in the country and face-off in an insane freestyle competition.
Festivities for scouts and fans begin with the Circle K Pre-Race Pit Party from 4-6 p.m., where they can meet the monster truck drivers, get autographs and have their pictures taken with the enormous racing machines. Ticket holders can stop by area Circle K stores and bring any size Polar Pop fountain drink for early admission to the Autograph Pit Party. The first 1,000 fans to enter the gates will receive a free autograph poster.
Fans can also feel the thrill with a monster truck ride on Sergeant Smash throughout the day for just $5 per person. Those under the age of 18 will need to have a parent or legal guardian sign a minor waiver before riding.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. and opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m.
Reserved seats for the Aug. 11 Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash presented by Polar Pop are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the event for adults and $10 for children 13 and under.
