Bat Food Newest Taste Sensation at Food Lion AutoFair
Everybody loves Batman, and those with a taste for the 73-year-old Caped Crusader will enjoy the bat-themed fair food available only at the Sept. 20-23 Food Lion AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The fall Food Lion AutoFair features more than 50 car club displays and more than 7,000 vendor spaces that offer a plethora of automotive parts and memorabilia. More than 1,500 collectible vehicles of all makes and models will be available for sale in the car corral that rings the 1.5-mile superspeedway. In addition, up to 200 cars will be auctioned by Dealer Auctions Inc., and kids can enjoy face-painting, bounce houses and other games and entertainment in the huge POWERADE Play Zone.
To commemorate the history of the Batman series, AutoFair organizers have put together a special display of Batmobile® replicas and coordinated with Levy Restaurants to create Bat Wings, Penguin Poppers, BOOM! POW! Burgers and Joker Juice.
An order of Bat Wings consists of four whole chicken wings fried and tossed with a sweet black barbecue sauce and served with a bright yellow honey mustard dipping sauce. If spicy and crunchy are requirements for fair food (and when are they not?), a plate of four Penguin Poppers – cream cheese-stuffed jalapeno peppers wrapped in bacon and fried – is sure to please. For a taste as American as Batman himself, the speedway will offer the BOOM! POW! Burger – a quarter-pound of meat grilled with A.1. Original Steak Sauce and topped with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, chipotle, aioli and fried onions on a bakery fresh bun and garnished with a crunchy Penguin Popper.
To wash it all down, Levy Restaurants’ Executive Sous Chef Shawn McFalls suggests a souvenir Mason jar full of bright green limeade with maraschino cherries that he calls Joker Juice.
“We always enjoy creating new recipes for AutoFair themes,” said McFalls, “but the staff got especially motivated to come up with ideas for Batman-related food.”
This latest installment of fun fair foods continues a tradition of unique eats at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Some of the more popular past culinary delights include chocolate-covered bacon, barbecue sundaes, the funnel bacakonator and deep-fried cupcakes.
Hours for the Sept. 20-23 Food Lion AutoFair are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday.
