Catfish Racing, "Transformers" Vehicle and More Await Kids in the Powerade Play Zone During Food Lion AutoFair
A vehicle from the most recent “Transformers” movie, catfish races and much more await children in Charlotte Motor Speedway’s popular Powerade Play Zone during the Aug. 25-28 Food Lion AutoFair.
On Sunday the Powerade Play Zone will receive a special visit from Sentinel Prime – one of the characters from the movie “Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon.” The fire-fighting vehicle is being brought to the Food Lion AutoFair by Rosenbauer America, the world's leading manufacturer of firefighting vehicles and equipment. Sentinel Prime is a Rosenbauer 6x6 Aircraft Rescue truck that plays a major character role in the “Transformers” movie as a predecessor to Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots.
Also, kids can check out Charlotte Motor Speedway’s own fire truck, Engine 343, in the Powerade Play Zone all weekend during the Food Lion AutoFair. The truck is named in honor of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on America.
Additionally, families can watch catfish races and cheer on their favorite finned friends while raising money for Speedway Children’s Charities. Catfish will race three at a time in the Powerade Play Zone throughout the weekend in a custom-built course. Food Lion AutoFair goers can sponsor a fish for $1, with all the proceeds going to Speedway Children's Charities.
The Powerade Play Zone will also feature a petting zoo, pony rides, racing-themed inflatable slides, bounce houses, face painters, a family picnic area, kid-friendly concession stands and visits from Lugnut, the World’s Fastest Mascot. The Charlotte Motor Speedway Fan Van will be on hand, with cornhole and video games to play and misting fans will be on site, for a quick cool down.
An interactive Lego Build Zone will be available in the infield Media Center for children to play and learn. The Lego Build Zone will allow children to build Lego-themed race cars and race them on a track with help from professional builders from nearby Lego stores.
Located in the infield near the Media Center, the Powerade Play Zone will be open during the following times at the Food Lion AutoFair:
• Friday, Aug. 26: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Saturday, Aug. 27: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sunday, Aug. 28: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
While in the Powerade Play Zone, moms and dads can sign their children up for the Little Luggies Race Club from Charlotte Motor Speedway. Children who join the free membership club will receive an e-mail newsletter with information about special events and happenings at the speedway, a birthday postcard and chances to enter contests for prizes. Members and their families can also participate in Little Luggies Race Club events at upcoming Charlotte Motor Speedway races.
