The turbocharged compact cars of the Global Rallycross series, will roar into The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Sunday on a specially-created course designed to test the skills of some of the world's best drivers, including Travis Pastrana, Ken Block, Tanner Foust and Brian Deegan. The stars, the cars and the fan access are unique to Global Rallycross competition and are sure to provide thrills for the whole family.

The Stars

Many of the world's top action sports stars will compete at The Dirt Track this weekend, including Dave Mirra, the most decorated athlete in X Games history, Block, Foust, Deegan, Pastrana, Bucky Lasek, Scott Speed, Steve Arpin and many more from around the world. Global Rallycross combines the thrills of action sports and motorsports, making it a natural fit for adrenaline junkies from all forms of extreme action.

The Cars

The Global Rallycross series features turbocharged compact cars, such as the Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Sonic, Mini RX, Dodge Dart, Subaru WRX, Hyundai Veloster and Mitsubishi Lancer. The cars are modified production cars built to withstand the jumps, hairpin turns and water hazards of a GRC course. They produce 600 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-60 in 1.9 seconds.

The Access

Every ticket to Global Rallycross presented by SYLVANIA SilverStart zXe at The Dirt Track is a paddock pass, meaning that the fans have behind-the-scenes access to see the drivers and teams work on the cars before and after the race. The paddock area features team work areas, the Charlotte Motor Speedway Play Zone, vendors and more.

In addition, Global Rallycross will be hosting a welcome party at Carolina Ale House on Concord Mills Boulevard from 5 to 10 p.m. Several notable drivers are scheduled to appear and proceeds will benefit the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities.

The Racing

The action will begin with six-lap heat races, scheduled to start at 1 p.m. The top two finishers transfer into the main event, and all other finishers will move into the four-lap last chance qualifier race to fill the final positions for the main event. Ten cars will start the main feature. Each race starts with a standing start and drivers must accelerate in a split second to gain a crucial advantage heading into the first turn.

The Hardware

This race is also the final race in the the $20,000 battle for the SYLVANIA SilverStarĀ® zXe Cup. New to the GRC series this season, the SYLVANIA zXe Cup will go to the driver that earns the most championship points in four of the series' U.S.-based events. The fight for the SYLVANIA zXe Cup started with the July 11 race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, included races in Bristol and Atlanta, and wraps up on Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Toomas Heikkinen currently owns the lead, but is being followed closely by Block, Deegan and Foust, who are all neck-and-neck for second place. Every point matters as the drivers prepare to battle in Charlotte for the last and final bout in the SYLVANIA zXe Cup series.Ā 

General admission tickets are just $25, while children 13 and under are admitted for $10. Each ticket is a paddock pass, allowing access to see the teams and drivers work on the cars. The drivers will also participate in autograph sessions throughout the event.
