LiftMaster, the leading manufacturer of commercial door operators and garage door openers, is bringing the Firefighter Combat Challenge (FCC) to Charlotte Motor Speedway as a part of LiftMaster Pole Day and the Coca-Cola 600. As one of the biggest weekends of the NASCAR season, held from May 23-26, some of the top firefighters in the world will go head-to-head through the most demanding challenges in firefighting.

LiftMaster, whose product line includes commercial door operators specifically designed for firehouse applications, is showing its continued support for the Challenge and firefighters at 24 regional events throughout 2013. The Challenge, known as the toughest two minutes in sports, consists of firefighters wearing "full bunker gear" and competing in a race as they simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting. Firefighters must perform a linked series of five tasks, including climbing a five story tower, hoisting, chopping, and dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175 pound "victim" as they race against the clock and their competitors.

Competitors will be honored on LiftMaster Pole Day, the Coca-Cola 600 qualifying event, Thursday, May 23rd, with a Firefighter Parade lap just before qualifying.  Competition begins Saturday ahead of the Nationwide Series Race.  The main event, the LiftMaster Fire Fighter Challenge, will be prior to the Coca-Cola 600 with special guest NASCAR Driver Jamie McMurray in attendance. The relay will be followed by a pit stop challenge that will see NASCAR crew members competing alongside the firefighters. To further support firefighters, LiftMaster is giving over 3,500 tickets to areas fire stations.

"We are proud to support these local heroes and help fire stations across the country maintain safety and security with commercial door operators that exceed every possible standard," notes Neal Villarin, Manager, Sponsorship and Event Marketing at LiftMaster. "By partnering with the FCC throughout 2013, LiftMaster will have the chance to work directly with firefighters and fire stations to create lasting solutions that ensure they have the resources they need to be able to open their doors quickly and safely when the bell rings."

About Firefighter Combat Challenge

Since 1991, the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge (www.firefighterchallenge.com) has provided a snapshot of one of the most physically demanding and respected of occupations. It is an intense, spirited competition that demonstrates to the viewing public the nature of the job - and no job is more dependent upon the physical prowess of its work force. The challenge is an embodiment of the essence of firefighting.

The Challenge annually attracts hundreds of U.S. and Canadian municipal fire departments at more than 25 locations and is now expanding to countries around the world, including New Zealand, Germany, Argentina, Chile, and South Africa. The Challenge seeks to encourage firefighter fitness and demonstrate the profession's rigors to the public.
