NASCAR Drivers and Fans Kick-Off Coca-Cola 600 Weekend with a Spin Around the Track...on Foot
Before the green flag drops on the 51st running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, several NASCAR stars will get their engines started in a completely different way. They’ll take to the track with thousands of fans during one of the biggest weekends in NASCAR for the Coca-Cola Family Track Walk – part of a season-long program designed to encourage active family fun.
Fans can get moving alongside Coca-Cola Racing Family members including Ryan Newman and Clint Bowyer during the fourth event in the 2010 Coca-Cola Family Track Walk series, which kicks off at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 28. Following the walk, fans can enjoy activities for the whole family, including games, music, racing simulators, motivating lifestyle tips and Q&A sessions with drivers.
“Coca-Cola Family Track Walks tap into the passion of NASCAR fans, the energy of the sport, and the uplifting refreshment of Coca Cola to bring families together for some active fun,” said Caren Pasquale Seckler, Assistant Vice President, Coca-Cola Brand and Trademark Strategy, Coca-Cola North America. “By giving fans and their families exclusive access to walk on a real racetrack where NASCAR drivers will compete that same weekend, we’re offering them a simple and fun way to celebrate their favorite sport.”
In 2010, Coca-Cola Family Track Walks have been held at tracks in Daytona, Atlanta and Richmond. The final event in 2010 will be held in conjunction with the LifeLock.com 400 weekend at Chicagoland Speedway in July. Each Track Walk event provides fun opportunities for fans to get active by offering access to some of the most popular tracks on the circuit, top NASCAR drivers and entertainment for the whole family.
“I love how Coca-Cola Family Track Walks make getting active exciting and easy for NASCAR fans,” said Jeff Burton, driver of the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet and member of the Coca-Cola Racing Family. “To me, striking a healthy balance is all about the little things in life – staying motivated, making smart choices and spending time with family and friends.”
To round out the day with extra family fun, Coca-Cola and Charlotte Motor Speedway are bringing back a fan favorite from the 2009 season – the Quarter-Mile Cookout – using the nation’s longest grill. At 1,320 feet in length, the grill will use more than 3.5 tons of charcoal to cook up a picnic-style lunch following the Coca-Cola Family Track Walk.
“We had a tremendous response to last year’s Quarter-Mile Cookout and our fans have been hungry for us to bring it back,” said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. “Adding the family walk to the program to encourage healthy lifestyles will make this year’s event even better. It’s a great way for the speedway and Coca-Cola to say thanks to our race fans for their loyal support of the Coca-Cola 600.”
The entire day of events is free and open to all ticket and annual credential holders for the Coca-Cola 600. Tickets for the race are available online or by calling 1-800-455-FANS.
