Wildly-popular school bus racing, a huge fireworks display and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Series will highlight the 17th annual Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout Series, which begins June 8 and runs each Tuesday night through Aug. 10 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In addition to the special support events, each night of the 10-race series will feature the best Legend Car and Bandolero racing in the country.

Tickets to each family-friendly night of racing are just $7 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 12. Children under 6 are admitted free.

More than 150 Legend Car and Bandolero competitors will travel across the country to do battle each Tuesday night on Charlotte Motor Speedway's frontstretch quarter-mile oval for the prestigious Summer Shootout championship.

"The Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout Series is grassroots racing at its best," said Seamus Curley, director of events at Charlotte Motor Speedway. "It's a great opportunity for people of all ages to come out and enjoy affordable, local short-track action on Tuesday nights, while getting to watch drivers who may some day make it to the big leagues of motorsports."

CRASHCars, an entry level stock car division that features character-themed race cars will also be on tap for the 10-race series. Other nights will feature the return of Media Mayhem, where local media personalities race against one another in a school bus slobberknocker, and Mascot Mania, which includes Kids Poster Night, where kids design their own posters.

Legend Car racing is divided into four categories based on a driver's experience. The Pro division features veteran drivers while the Pull-a-Part Semi-Pro category is for those with limited Legend Car experience. The Young Lions division is for those new to Legend Car racing and the Masters division is for drivers 40 and older.

The Bandoleros are divided into two divisions with competitors grouped by age. The Bandits division is for racers 8 to 11 and the Outlaws category features drivers 12 and older.

Tickets for the Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout Series are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event. Parking is free. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with preliminary action at 5:30 p.m. Feature racing begins at 7:30 p.m. and concludes by 10:00 p.m.

In addition to the regular 10-week racing series, Charlotte Motor Speedway will host the biggest Legend Car race in history, the Legends Million, July 15 -17.

The Legends Million is a one-of-a-kind grassroots race featuring a total purse of $1 million with the A-Main winner guaranteed to take home an unprecedented $250,000, while the final spot in the feature is assured $10,000.
