Tuesday's racing action ended early as severe weather forced officials to call Round Eight of the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series during the second feature race of the night. Brian Weimer won in the Auto Country Club Legend Car Masters feature while Daniel Hemric claimed his third Quaker Steak and Lube Legend Car Pro victory of the year.

Weimer, of Cumming, Ga., started on the pole, but would fight against Tom Pistone all night for first place in the Masters feature. On lap three, Pistone took the lead from Weimer and held him off until lap 16, when Weimer went to the inside of Pistone in Turn 3, holding him off for the win. Pistone settled for second, while Bruce Silver followed behind in third.

In the Pro feature, Hemric, of Kannapolis, N.C., took the lead away from pole-sitter Jake Cole on lap 5 and pulled away from the field. No one had a chance to catch Hemric as severe weather came into the area, forcing officials to end the race with 13 laps complete. Steven Cantrell finished second and Justin Swilling took third.

The remaining feature races from Round Eight will be run in conjunction with Round Nine next Tuesday, Aug. 14. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with make-up feature races starting at 5:10 p.m. Fans who attended the weather-shortened event can bring their tickets stubs for admission to next week’s races.

The 19th annual Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series continues Tuesday with Fan Appreciation Night and the Little Luggies 600. In addition to the regular racing divisions, Charlotte Motor Speedway will hold its inaugural Little Luggies 600 Power Wheel races. The first 30 Little Luggies members between the ages of 4-7, who sign up with the help of their parents, will have a chance to race their own Power Wheel against their peers. The winner will receive a one-of-a-kind trophy and be crowned the champion of the Little Luggies 600. To sign up, email or call the Charlotte Motor Speedway events department at 704-455-3205.

Tickets for the Summer Shootout Series are $7 for adults and are available in advance at the speedway ticket office or at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event. Kids 13 and under get in free. The first 1,000 fans through the gates get a free Frisbee courtesy of Jack in the Box.
