The threat of rain couldn’t put a damper on the racing action during Round Six of the Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Last-lap passes and hard battles for position defined Tuesday night’s feature events with winners including Josh Morris, John Holleman and Austin Powell.

Morris, of Fredericksburg, Va., secured the win with a last-lap pass in the Legend Car Young Lions division.

Adam Burton, of Thomasville, N.C., powered past Douglasville, Ga., native, Mason Massey on the backstretch on Lap 2 to take the lead. Massey fell back to fourth and Morris used this shuffle for position to take control of second place.

Turn 2 proved to be a troublesome spot for these young drivers as four cautions plagued the field, causing race officials to count caution laps. The feature came down to a three-lap shootout once the field finally returned to green-flag racing.

Making a pass to the inside of leader, Burton, Morris was able to conquer Turn 2. Burton spun allowing Ben Rhodes, of Louisville, Ky., and Justin Carroll, of Concord, N.C., to finish second and third.

In the Bandolero Outlaws feature race, Holleman, of Winston Salem, N.C., made daring passes on his way to winning for the second night in a row.

At the start, Tyler Lester, of Dallas, N.C., went three wide in Turn 4 to move from fourth to second on Lap 1. He quickly went after pole sitter, Palm Coast, Fla., native, Noah Cornman, and made a pass to the inside on the backstretch to take over the lead on the third lap. Lester moved away from the field, but a caution flag flew on Lap 14, taking away any advantage he had.

On the restart, Lester and Walker Yates, of Clemmons, N.C., battled side-by-side as Yates took the lead. In the following lap, Lester completed a bump-and-run on Yates to reclaim the top spot. Holleman came out of nowhere to make a move to the inside of Yates to take over second and on Lap 17, took the lead after passing Lester to the inside in Turn 1.

Holleman controlled the remainder of the race on his way to taking home the victory. Seth Werner, of Iron Station, N.C., moved up to take second and Yates finished third.

The Bandolero Beginner Bandits Round Five winner, Powell of Concord, N.C., started where he left off Monday night, en route to his second consecutive win.

Mooresville, N.C., native, Hunter Stewart, got an early jump from the pole position and lead the first four laps before Powell made a move to take the lead away. Stewart was able to battle back on the inside of Powell, but the two drivers made contact, sending Stewart into a spin as Powell held on to his lead.

After charging back through the field, Stewart moved past Cason Werner, of Iron Station, N.C., for the third position on Lap 13 and continued on to take the second position away from Charlotte, N.C., native, Tyler Farris, on Lap 16.

Powell took the checkered flag as Stewart and Farris crossed the line in second and third. HunterHunhdfd

Lug Nut, the world’s fastest mascot, couldn’t be stopped as he surprised competitors by winning the principal school bus slobberknocker. Harold E. Winkler Middle School principal, Greg Liddle, was the only driver to come close to stealing away the win, battling with Lug Nut until a caution brought on a green, white, checkered finish. Liddle settled for second while Carl A. Furr Elementary’s Darin Roberts took home third.

Other feature winners included, Jeff Green, of Owensboro, Ky., in the Legend Car Masters division; Sean Rayhall, of Austell, Ga., in the Legend Car Pro division; Kyle Hall, of Charlotte, N.C., in the Legend Car Semi-Pro division; and Carson Ferguson, of Charlotte, N.C., in the Bandolero Bandits division.
