Traffic Snarling Flip at Charlotte Motor Speedway Caused by Monster Trucks?
Speedway officials would like to dispel any rumors that the massive monster trucks that will be a part of Saturday’s Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash were involved in an accident that wreaked havoc with traffic patterns on U.S. 29 at the intersection of O. Bruton Smith Boulevard early this morning.
The source of the snarl in front of Charlotte Motor Speedway was simply an ordinary overturned 18-wheeler. However, the high-flying, metal-mashing mega machines will cause much more vehicular chaos at The Dirt Track at Charlotte tomorrow night with their insane antics.
Although none of the 10 monster trucks have escaped the confines of The Dirt Track (at this point) two will be tamed just enough to make public appearances at local Circle K stores today:
- Stone Crusher: 12-2 p.m., Circle K in Mooresville, 255 West Plaza Drive
- Equalizer: 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., Circle K in Concord, 4930 Davidson Highway
In addition, speedway officials are working at The Dirt Track at Charlotte today, moving dirt and shaping ramps as they put the finishing touches on the world's longest monster truck competition course. The enormous course features eight jumps with one colossal 25-foot ramp being the granddaddy of them all. The monster trucks will compete in an insane freestyle competition, in addition to battling in a series of one-on-one elimination races over a radical obstacle course.
The trucks expected to compete in head-to-head challenges are Avenger, Backdraft, Brutus, Equalizer, Hot Tamale, Mopar Magic, Raminator, Stone Crusher, Tailgator and War Wizard.
Monster truck festivities will begin with the Circle K Pre-Race Pit Party from 4-6 p.m., featuring an autograph session, meet and greet with the monster truck and FASTRAK Late Model Series drivers and photo opportunities with the enormous racing machines. Fans will also have the opportunity to take a thrilling ride in the back of a monster truck, as the Stone Crusher ride-a-long truck will be offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience for just $5 per person. Ticket holders can gain entry to the Pit Party by presenting a Thirst Buster cup purchased from any Circle K store at the gate. As an added bonus, the first 1,000 attendees will receive a free commemorative monster truck poster that can be utilized for driver autographs.
The FASTRAK Late Model Series will add extra excitement to an already action-packed evening when they race the FASTRAK Triple Crown, a 30-lap, $2,000-to-win feature in conjunction with the Monster Truck Bash. The FASTRAK main feature will follow the monster truck freestyle event at approximately 9:45 p.m. More than 40 FASTRAK Late Model Series drivers are expected to compete on the lightning-fast, four-tenths-mile oval.
Advance reserved seats for the Aug. 14 Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash are $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Tickets purchased the day of the event are $10 for children 12 and under and $25 for adults.
