The Dirt Track at Charlotte was honored Monday night with a North Carolina Motorsports Association Motorsports Industry Award recognizing the World of Outlaws World Finals, held each November. The award was presented at the NCMA's 8th Annual NC Motorsports Industry Awards Ceremony, held at the Concord Convention Center at Embassy Suites.

The award recognized the growth of the World of Outlaws World Finals over the past seven years since the event was created. The dirt-racing spectacle has established a reputation for providing the best racing of the year and has captivated sell-out crowds each of the last five years. One of the most anticipated short-track events of the season, the World Finals crowns champions in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series, World of Outlaws Late Model Series and the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds at the lightning-fast, four-tenths-mile clay oval.

"In 2013, the World Finals attracted a record 176 cars and impacted the local economy to a tune of $8 million," said award presenter Kenny Wallace. "What was met with skepticism just a few short years ago has become one of the crown jewels of dirt track racing."

Shaun Johnson, director of race operations at Charlotte Motor Speedway, accepted the award on behalf of The Dirt Track.

The 2014 World of Outlaws World Finals will be held Nov. 6-8 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. The three-day event is once again expected to host an international crowd and is pacing toward a sell-out. Three-day passes are available now and include a free pit pass while supplies last.
