All-Star Challenge Weekend Pit Note #14
Kevin Harvick (winner, No. 29 Childress/Pennzoil/Shell Chevrolet): "We were good all night. We brought back a different body this year. This All-Star is a lot of fun. You know, DeLana [my wife] told me before the race that I was going to win."
Jimmie Johnson (runner-up, No. 48 Hendrick/Lowe's Power of Pride Chevrolet): "We got close to that first place in the last few laps. Our cars were about equal. Threw a lot at him, but just came up a little short. I'm a little disappointed on how we got started. We started off a little slow. I got really tight on that first run. Looking to the 600 next week, I'm ready to come back and get started."
Mark Martin (third place, No. 01 Ginn/U.S. Army Chevrolet): "Started in back and came up a little short after working our way to the front and getting some track position. This format is not my style. I'm not much of a short-distance racer. I'm more of a long-distance racer. The three cars there at the end were about equal. My specialty is a little more than 20 laps. There are a lot of good cars to contend with for the 600 next week."
DeLana Harvick (wife of NEXTEL All-Star Challenge winner Kevin Harvick): "I don't know what to think - this is pretty awesome. I told Kevin on the way down here that he was going to win this race, and he asked me why I thought that. I told him I just knew. To win the two biggest races of the year so far is just unreal. Kevin's really doing a good job this year and I'm proud of him. We're going to have to get to bed early because we've got to catch a plane at six o'clock in the morning to fly to Iowa [for the NASCAR Grand National Division Busch East/Busch West race Sunday afternoon at Iowa Speedway]. Hopefully, we can pull off another win tomorrow."
