Coca-Cola 600 Pit Note #11
There has been a lot of talk in the garage area about the tire compound for this weekend's races, but the NASCAR Busch Series teams are adapting as they prepare for tonight's CARQUEST Auto Parts 300:
Michael Cluka (tire/shock specialist, No. 47 Wood Brothers/Armor All Ford): "It'll be a little hairy and scary during qualifying. But then the sun goes down everything will get back to being okay."
Shorty Edwards (former tire specialist with Junior Johnson Associates): "This tire is basically the same as they've got in Cup. There's very little grip in it. What I like about it, though, is it's making some of these drivers get up on the wheel and drive these cars instead whining all the time."
CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 Pole Winner Quotes:
Matt Kenseth (No. 17 Arby's Ford): "The track is the same as it was last year. You know, maybe a little bit slicker. The track has worn a little bit and we're still running that hard old tire. It seems like a couple grooves came in a lot of times there during the practice and during the test, so hopefully we will be able to get them both working tonight. There is not a lot to learn tonight for tomorrow night. We start the race three hours later tonight than we do tomorrow. And the cars are driving a fair amount different. So it will be fun running at night. We might learn a little bit about the tires and stuff like that, but probably not. Probably won't be a big advantage. Today and tomorrow; it's probably the hottest races we've had this year, and the longest races that we've had, so we want to stay rested up and ready for it."
