Coca-Cola 600 Pit Note # 19
After further research, we have determined the 50th running of the Coca-Cola 600 does not mark the first time Charlotte Motor Speedway's 600-miler has been postponed due to rain. In 1963, heavy rain forced the postponement of the race from the originally scheduled date of May 26 until June 2, the following weekend. Junior Johnson was comfortably in the lead until he blew a tire late in the race, allowing Fred Lorenzen to take the victory in the fourth running of the 600-mile event.
We apologize for the error in the earlier report.
