NASCAR Banking 500 Pit Note #5
Comments about Qualifying for the NASCAR Banking only from Bank of America 500
Kasey Kahne (qualified third in the No. 9 Budweiser Dodge) - "We had a great Budweiser Dodge. We ran five laps in practice. I screwed up in [turn] three and lost a little bit in four. But, we will be right in the mix come Saturday night. We didn't have a whole lot of time. I'm really happy that NASCAR found some time and stayed late and tried to get some practice and qualifying in tonight, because it's really fun here. I think the track had a lot of grip tonight. The car drove good with both ends - the front and the back. Everything is getting better with our team."
Mark Martin (qualified second in the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports/CARQUEST Chevrolet) - "The track was incredible. Real excited about my race car. It's so comfortable and ran so well. That practice (before qualifying) was a complete wash. I feel less pressure and stress now than I did two months before the Chase began. We'll race and let the races decide the points title. I think since there's so much grip in the track we're going to see a really good race Saturday night."
Jimmie Johnson (on the pole in the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports/Lowe's Chevrolet) - "Found in practice a good comfort level for me that carried over into qualifying. It was a good lap for us in qualifying. It was a good lap, but it was just one. I drove outside myself in that practice lap. It was unbelievable. Don't think I've ever done that before. This is my first real experience of racing against Mark Martin. He and that no. 5 car are rock solid, and knowing they're running for Hendrick Motorsports, I know we're in for a fight. There have been ups and downs, but we [crew chief Chad Knaus and Johnson] were trying really hard in having a good understanding. The faster we go, the narrower the racing line becomes. I don't know how much faster we can go."
