Bank of America 500 Post-Race Quotes

Greg Zipadelli (Crew Chief No. 20 Home Depot Toyota) – I think we were better when we unloaded than where we qualified… in 12th. Then tonight, we had a couple of bad pit stops, and that got us behind. We were better than seventh. We were a third- or fourth-place car. We did a good job of getting back up there. We stayed calm and cool, and we dug all day, so that’s a big deal. The driver is getting better, too. He didn’t get all worked up and excited. He struggled a little bit on some restarts. We were on the bottom all night, and we needed to be on the top. We let him go and go back to work and pass them. So, he did a good job.

Gil Martin (Crew Chief No. 29 Shell/Pennzoil Chevrolet) – It was a good finish for us here at Charlotte. There’s no doubt about that, having a single-digit finish. I mean, this team is resilient. This team can do a lot, and I’m pretty proud of these guys. We come from behind several times… to run like that. This is obviously one of our absolute worst tracks that Kevin comes to. And to come back here with an eighth-place finish heading into our [Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup] races… this is the race in the Chase that we knew was going to be our big stumbling block. So, to come out of here like that, I’m pretty happy with it with the races we have coming up.

Mike Ford (Crew Chief No. 11 FedEx Ground Toyota) – We were one adjustment away that we couldn’t make during a pit stop. It’s good and bad. You know what you needed, but you couldn’t get there. We couldn’t put all three parts of the corners together. I mean, if we could just do a little bit to tie it together, I think we would have been able to compete a little closer to the 1 car [McMurray]. It was a good night. I think that was Denny’s first top-five here. So, it was a good night for us. We come out of here with a top-five… you can’t get too greedy. You know, the 48 [Johnson] did a good job rebounding from their issues early, and they did what they had to do. So, we kept it close. I’m excited. It’s stressful, but it’s a lot of fun.
