Sunoco Driven Challenge to Reward Up-and-Coming Drivers – In a unique competition to reward grassroots racing drivers, Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) and Sunoco have teamed up to form the Sunoco Driven Challenge. The new concept will take drivers from five grassroots racing series and give them the opportunity to earn points. The winner will get an opportunity to test with a Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR K&N Pro Series race car following the 2012 racing season.
In making the announcement, JGR President J.D. Gibbs noted, “We are looking to find the next up-and-coming drivers and also showcase our products. We see a lot of value in it, and they see a lot of value in it. It’s really a good opportunity for someone to test with our guys.”
Sunoco Vice President of Marketing Cynthia Archer also noted the opportunity.
“We are happy to do this,” said Archer. “This is a great partnership to find aspiring drivers of tomorrow.”
The drivers will come from the PASS North, PASS South, CRA Super Series, ASA Midwest and SRL Southwest series. Drivers who finish in the top 10 in each race will earn points. The points will accumulate throughout the season based on the number of races in each series. The driver with the highest average number of points at the end of the season will be named the Sunoco Driven Challenge champion. The winner will receive a testing session with JGR, a tour of JGR’s headquarters and a meeting with Gibbs.
There will also be a consumer program that will allow a lucky race fan and a guest to join the winning driver with an all-expense paid trip to Charlotte, N.C., where they will tour the JGR race shop, meet Gibbs and attend the test session.
Young NASCAR Fans Receive Dental Care – NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Greg Biffle has teamed up with 3M ESPE, the American Dental Association and Henry Schein Inc. to help provide Charlotte-area children the opportunity to receive free dental care. The Give Kids A Smile program will help more than 200 young fans and those attending the activities surrounding Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Biffle is hosting the clinic, which will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Powerade Play Zone in the new Fan Zone at the front of the speedway. The clinic will provide free dental evaluations, fluoride treatments and dental sealants. Children will also receive digital X-rays embedded in a wristband for participating. More than 100 dental professionals are volunteering their time and services for the clinic, which does not require a race ticket to participate.
Biffle talked about his participation in the program during a press conference at the speedway today. He has taken part in a new public service announcement for the Give Kid’s A Smile program and he will make an appearance to meet with the kids on Saturday.
“Being a new dad, this is easy for me to be involved with,” said Biffle. “This has been a lot of fun. I had no idea how many kids lack minimal dental care and how it affects their education. I really have to thank everyone who has gotten involved with this. We hope this program will continue to get bigger. We’ll see what the future holds.”
As one of Biffle’s sponsors, 3M ESPE has more than 1,000 dental products available for the average person.
