Brian Deegan to Race in NASCAR – Brian Deegan, one of the most decorated freestyle motocross riders in X-Games history, has teamed up with NTS Motorsports and its driver development program to enter into NASCAR racing. The team is based out of Bakersfield, Calif., and plans to compete in the Super Late Model Series and the K&N East and West Series on a limited basis. Deegan will become part of a two-car team that includes current driver Brennan Newberry. Father Bob Newberry owns the team.
Deegan has won 16 X-Games medals and has a legion of motocross fans nicknamed the “Metal Mulisha.” He hopes to introduce them to the world of NASCAR racing while he progresses through the ranks to the Camping World Truck, Nationwide, and eventually Sprint Cup Series.
“I have always had dreams of racing in NASCAR,” said Deegan. “I grew up racing motocross and super-cross, and ended up winning the LA Coliseum Super-Cross Series. I walked away from super-cross to start free-style motocross. I ended up having a big following of kids following the team. I have always wanted to race again, so I got into short-course truck racing and ended up winning the championship the first year. The next step was cars. And I thought ‘How am I going to get into NASCAR?’ Through that, I was able to meet Bob Newberry, and he gave me the opportunities. My goal is to work my way up through the (different) series and bring my loyal following of fans to NASCAR.”
Team owner Bob Newberry noted there was no timeframe to achieve the team’s goals.
“If it takes a hundred races a year, that’s what we will do,” said Newberry. “We want to progress our team as our drivers progress. And we want to do it the right way. Our goal is to eventually get to Sprint Cup, and I feel like we will.”
The team is sponsored by MySmokinRide.com and Fountain Power Boats.
