NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race Pit Note #12
NASCAR Sprint All-Star Showdown Quotes:
NASCAR Sprint All-Star Showdown Winner David Ragan (No. 6, UPS We Love Logistics Ford) “I told everyone going into this race it was going to be a hard one. To get into this race is going to be a bonus. I’m very pumped up to be in this race tonight. We have been so close. We have sat on the pole the past two races, and this time we were finally able to pull it off and get this Sprint Showdown trophy. I’ve been to victory lane here but not for a big car race. We’ve got a very fast Ford. I think a Ford has a great chance to win this All-Star race. We were fast and able to close the deal. Our car was good. Track position is so important. These races are won and lost on the restarts. A restart is going to determine the winner of the Coca-Cola 600. Clean air is so important. It’s a testament to how good our car was. I thought, ‘I don’t need to wreck us both.”
Brad Keselowski (2nd, No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge ) “Our goal was to transfer. David [Ragan] was really, really strong. I’m pretty excited and ready to get racing. If we’d had a little more speed we could have won this thing.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Sprint Fan Vote Winner, 6th in Showdown, No. 88 Dale Jr. Foundation/ AMP Energy Chevrolet) “I want to thank all the fans. I know my fans worked pretty hard, and it meant a lot to them. I appreciate the help. We hit on some things right there at the end, and the car got quite a bit faster. That last run there was really good. [Did you really ever doubt winning the Fan Vote?] Anytime there’s a contest and they don’t announce the winner, there’s no guarantee. We just didn’t take it for granted. My fans worked really hard. They deserve all the credit, they do the work. [About the car] That last run, it was pretty fast, so I think we made it better. The speed’s there. My biggest problem, and I think it’s going to be a problem again tonight, is I don’t have any speed the first four laps. But our car doesn’t really fall off too bad.”
Derrike Cope (27th, No. 64 Gunselman Motorsports Ford): [Are you OK?] “Bit my tongue, chipped my tooth, but other than that, no worse for wear. She’s not [referring to the car].”
Record Time Following the Sprint Showdown, officials from Guinness World Records presented Charlotte Motor Speedway President and General Manager Marcus Smith with official documentation certifying the Guinness World Record for flashlights lit at one time. In accepting the certification, Smith noted it would not have been possible without the race fans.
“My dad built Charlotte Motor Speedway, and we never stopped building,” said Smith. “This is just the latest thing he does for race fans. He thinks of the fans and has been for a long, long time. My dad always says we work for the fans.”
