Severe weather Tuesday night forced officials to postpone all Legend Car and Bandolero feature racing in round four of the Summer Shootout Series.

The only feature race of the evening was the Media Mayhem school bus slobberknocker, where Charlotte media battled head-to-head for an opportunity to take home the victory for their respective outlet. WBTV meteorologist Al Conklin held off a hard charging Matthew East from News 14 and Chuck “DZL” Thompson, with 106.5 FM The End, to claim the win.

Thompson drew the pole position and led the first three laps until Conklin made a daring three-wide pass on Lap 4 to take the top spot. The caution flag flew twice during the event—the first time on Lap 6 when East turned Thompson’s bus around coming out of Turn 4 and the second time for debris on Lap 8, as a result of contact between News Channel 36’s Brad Panovich and WSOC-TV’s Andrew Doud.

Conklin’s win was his first career school bus victory and the first victory for WBTV in the Media Mayhem racing series at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The official make-up date for round four of the Summer Shootout Series is to be determined. For updates visit www.charlottemotorspeedway.com or www.uslegendcars.com.

Fans who present their ticket stub from tonight will gain free entry to any one of the remaining 2011 Summer Shootout Series events.

The 18th annual Summer Shootout Series continues Monday, July 4, and Tuesday, July 5, with two big nights of racing. In addition to the on-track action, Charlotte Motor Speedway will host a fireworks extravaganza on both nights after the feature races in celebration of Independence Day.

Tuesday will mark the return of the famous principal school bus race. Fans can watch area school principals beat and bang around the quarter-mile to take home the win for their respective school.

The first 1,000 kids to enter the gate will receive a pair of glow glasses on Monday and glow necklaces on Tuesday. Families can enter for a chance to win a Myrtle Beach vacation each night courtesy of MyrtleBeachHotels.com.
