Tuesday night, fans got to see a little bit of everything as Lug Nut, the world’s fastest mascot, defended his home turf in a go-kart race and Austin Hill, Tyler Lester and David Garbo Jr. won in Legend Car and Bandolero racing action during Round Two of the 19th annual Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In the NOS Energy Legend Car Semi-Pro feature, Garbo, of Stonington, Conn., got his second win of the night at the end of a wild 20-lap race, after claiming the victory in the Round One makeup feature earlier in the night.

Austin Langenstein started on the pole and led the race until a caution came out for a nasty multi-car wreck on lap 5, which sent the No. 14 of Austin Reed flipping down the backstretch. Reed got out of the car under his own power and gave a thumbs up to the crowd, but was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

On the restart, Ryan Mackintosh took the lead away from Langenstein, but started getting heat from the No. 18 of Spencer Boyd, who would take the lead away on lap 10. As the laps wound down, Garbo closed in, making contact with Boyd going into Turn 2 on lap 18. The contact sent Boyd spinning as Garbo drove on for the win. Langenstein settled for second and Mackintosh crossed the line in third.

Hill, of Winston, Ga., started from the pole and led the Quaker Steak and Lube Legend Car Pro feature race from flag to flag, holding off a hard-charging Steven Cantrell and Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. The race was caution-free but featured fierce battles for the top five positions. Cantrell came through the field from the ninth starting position, while Wallace started in sixth.

Lester, of Dallas, N.C., was the winner of the Bandolero Outlaws feature for the second week in a row. In a race that was shortened to 15 laps due to three extended cautions, Lester took the lead from Seth Werner on lap 7 and kept the point position for the remainder of the race. After a battle in the closing laps, Dakota Ratcliff took second from Werner who finished third.

In the Mascot Mania go-kart race, Lug Nut took the win over Tim E. Gator, the Kannapolis Intimidators mascot, and Chubby Checker, of the Charlotte Checkers. It looked like Monkey Joe, of Monkey Joe’s Party and Play Center, would get the win, but the newly implemented dodgeball element ruined his chances late in the race.

The rest of the finishing order included Lugette in the fourth spot; Rufus Lynx, of the Charlotte Bobcats, in fifth; Monkey Joe in sixth; Norm the Niner, of the UNC Charlotte 49ers, in seventh; and Sir Purr, of the Carolina Panthers, in eighth.

Other winners of the night included Tom Pistone, of Mooresville, N.C., in the Auto Country Club Legend Car Masters feature, Ryan Shattuck, of Islamorada, Fla., in the Legend Car Young Lions feature, DJ Canipe, of Fallston, N.C., in the Bandolero Beginner Bandits feature and Austin Green, of Concord, N.C., in the Bandolero Bandits feature.

Winners from the Round One makeup feature races postponed from last week included Jack Dossey, of Wanamaker, Ind., in the Auto Country Club Legend Car Masters division, Wallace, of Concord, N.C., in the Quaker Steak & Lube Legend Car Pro division and Garbo in the NOS Energy Semi-Pro division.
