Drag racing fans of all ages will be treated to three nitro-fueled days of food, fire and fun as the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals roars to life at zMAX Dragway this Friday through Sunday.
The high-octane event will see the top competitors in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle battle side-by-side-by-side-by-side at over 335 mph in a pavement-pounding push to victory.
But the on-track fun is only part of what’s in store for fans this weekend. Here’s a look at a few more can’t-miss attractions that are sure to get fans’ motors revving.
4-Wide Tacos
The action on the track isn’t the only thing spicing up the zMAX Dragway this weekend. Fans in attendance can line up for four lanes of flavor in this year’s 4-Wide Smoked Brisket Taco Challenge, presented in conjunction with Levy Restaurants.
- Lane 1: “The Pico,” an in-house burnt end beef brisket taco with BBQ mole sauce and house made pico de gallo in a flour tortilla
- Lane 2: “The Verde,” an in-house burnt end beef brisket taco with local green tomato picante and roasted serrano chile in a flour tortilla
- Lane 3: “The Al Pastor,” an in-house burnt end beef brisket taco with charred pineapple salsa and cilantro in a flour tortilla
- Lane 4: “The Fresco,” an in-house burnt end beef brisket taco with angry pickled onions and queso fresco in a flour tortilla
Motocross on the Midway
Suspense, thrill and danger will invade zMAX Dragway as the KSFMX freestyle motocross team brings their high-flying stunt show to 300x40-foot footprint right in the middle of the bustling midway. In addition to unprecedented pit access to their favorite NHRA drivers, cars and teams, fans will have a front-row seat to jaw-dropping stunts performed by world-class athletes.
Friday Night of Fire
The sensory overload of 44,000-horsepower barrelling down the drag strip and 10-foot-tall header flames will illuminate zMAX Dragway when the Night of Fire blazes to glory during Friday’s qualifying. Once the fuel cars take the track, fans will witness the fastest accelerating machines on the planet topping speeds of more than 335 mph as they cover the 1,000-foot racing surface in less than four seconds. Night of Fire will feature a showcase of pyrotechnics, music and elaborate driver introductions to kick off the pulse-pounding weekend.
Where There’s “Smoke”
Fans are in for a legendary weekend as NASCAR Hall of Famer and three-time Cup Series champion Tony Stewart looks to “Smoke” the competition in his first-ever Top Fuel start at zMAX Dragway. Stewart has had good luck at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the past, earning wins in the 2003 Bank of America 500 and 2009 NASCAR All-Star Race, but he’ll have to hold off a strong field of competitors if he wants to lift the Wally across the street at zMAX Dragway.
