For visitors who have yet to visit that twinkling wonderland that is Speedway Christmas or those who just can't get enough of the holiday fun, Charlotte Motor Speedway officials will offer a special treat on Monday, Dec. 7, with a one-night-only screening of country music star Jimmy Wayne's holiday movie, "Paper Angels."
Inspired by the experiences of foster-child-turned-hit-country-music-star, Jimmy Wayne, and produced in partnership with The Salvation Army, "Paper Angels" is adapted from Wayne's best-selling book by the same name. Starring Matthew Settle ("Gossip Girl") and Josie Bisset ("The Secret Life of the American Teenager," "Melrose Place"), "Paper Angels" sheds light on The Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program and the opportunities that can come from keeping the faith.
Featuring three original songs by Wayne, "Paper Angels" is an inspirational holiday story about a child affected by The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program, a seasonal initiative that provides new clothing or toys for children of needy families through the support of donors.
"When I was nine years old, my 'paper angel' hung on an Angel Tree in a mall just like the children in the film," Wayne said. "I received my first guitar that Christmas, and years later I was performing at Madison Square Garden with a record deal. 'Paper Angels' exemplifies the true meaning of Christmas in a way that has never been seen on film before. I'm where I'm at today because of the generosity of The Salvation Army and those who take part in the Angel Tree program."
Fans visiting Speedway Christmas on Dec. 7 can take in the movie on the speedway's giant, 16,000-square-foot HDTV, beginning at 8 p.m. The movie screening is free with admission to Speedway Christmas and is presented by Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated.
Speedway Christmas is open nightly from 6 to 10 p.m. through Dec. 30, excluding Christmas Day. Tickets are available online or at the gate. Admission is just $20 per car every Monday through Wednesday night, $25 per car on Thursday and Sunday nights and $30 per car on Friday and Saturday nights. Group rates are available. Visitors can bring any Coca-Cola product for $5 off admission any night.
