Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau Wins "One for the Kids" Golf Tournament

Monday, with the support of many sponsors and area businesses, the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities raised more than $70,000 through the second annual NRA Foundation "One for the Kids" Golf Tournament presented by Sonic Automotive to benefit local children in need.

The Cabarrus County Convention and Visitors Bureau bested 31 teams at the tournament, held at the Ballantyne Resort. Their prize consisted of gift cards provided by Lowe's Home Improvement and G-Force racing helmet trophies, but Charlotte-area children in need were the real winners.

"Because of the generosity of our sponsors and participants, we will be able to make an impact on the lives of many children this year," said Lisa Starnes, executive director of the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities. "It was great to see so many kind hearts out there playing in the heat to support our cause. We had a wonderful day on such a beautiful course and I can't thank everyone enough for their efforts."

The funds raised from the tournament will benefit several area nonprofit organizations and a portion of the proceeds will support the children of wounded or fallen military members as a part of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

The highly successful charity event followed a giant month of May for the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with several activities benefiting the nonprofit organization. Headlining the fundraising festivities was the annual black tie Sonic Automotive Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Speedway Children's Charities Gala presented by The NRA Foundation, which generated more than $400,000.
