They're back! For the 16th year, families will enjoy the high-flying action of the most unique vehicles in motorsports on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash presented by Mello Yello at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
A highlight of the show will be the return of BigFoot 4x4, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary in monster truck competition with a special throwback paint scheme. Other metal-mashing machines expected to compete in head-to-head challenges include Hooked, Stone Crusher, Avenger, Wrecking Crew, Heavy Hitter, GunSlinger and River Rat.
The evening of monster mayhem will include the gigantic trucks battling in a crazy freestyle competition, plus a series of one-on-one elimination races over a radical obstacle course featuring twisting turns and rim-rattling terrain.
In addition to the monster truck show, Reptar and Galactron, two fire-breathing, car-consuming transforming robots, will dual in an intergalactic battle sure to entertain kids and adults alike. Other action will include a freestyle motocross exhibition and a daring stunt by Super Bob Airborne.
Monster trucks are typically 11-feet tall and tip the scales at nearly five tons. Their custom-built, fuel-injected engines produce nearly 2,000 horsepower and the massive machines can jump 110 to 115 feet—a distance greater than 14 cars lined up side-by-side.
Festivities begin with the Circle K Pre-Race Pit Party from 4-6 p.m., where fans can meet the monster truck drivers, get autographs and have their pictures taken with the enormous racing machines. Ticket holders can stop by area Circle K stores and bring any size Polar Pop fountain drink for early admission to the Autograph Pit Party at 3:30 p.m. The first 1,000 fans to enter the gates will receive a free autograph poster.
Fans can also feel the thrill with a monster truck ride on the Mighty Monster Bus throughout the day for just $10 per person. For a limited time, rides can be purchased in advance for just $5 on the Charlotte Motor Speedway website.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. and opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m.
Reserved seats for the Aug. 8 Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash presented by Mello Yello are $25 (plus tax) for adults, if purchased in advance, and $10 (plus tax) for children 13 and under. Adult tickets will increase to $32 (including tax) the week of the event.
