Charlotte Motor Speedway and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) teamed up Monday night for the annual Drive Out Hunger Night at Speedway Christmas, generating a record turnout and making a meaningful impact on families across the region facing food insecurity.

More than 1,900 cars streamed through the holiday spectacular – marking the largest Monday night crowd in Speedway Christmas history – as families donated six canned goods in exchange for free admission. In total, guests contributed more than 13,000 pounds of food, all of which will be distributed to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, whose mission is to provide food and grocery items to charitable agencies supporting individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

In partnership with Blue Cross NC, this week’s Drive Out Hunger collection – combined with an earlier donation event this year – brings the annual total to more than 15,000 pounds of food distributed to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. This yearlong impact helps improve food security for local communities and builds on Blue Cross NC’s commitment to make healthy eating more accessible and expands access to food.

“Drive Out Hunger Night shows the power of community. When strong, community-focused partners like Blue Cross NC come together with our fans, we’re able to make a real, meaningful impact for families facing food insecurity,” said Charlotte Motor Speedway's Vice President of Corporate Sales, Matt Long. “We are incredibly grateful for everyone who showed up and helped make this the biggest Monday night in Speedway Christmas history.”

Speedway Christmas, one of the Southeast’s largest and most beloved holiday attractions, features four million lights, synchronized-to-music displays, an infield driving course, concessions, photos with Santa and more. Events like Drive Out Hunger Night shine a light on the event’s mission of celebrating the season while giving back to the community.

Speedway Christmas runs nightly – with the exception of Christmas Eve – through Jan. 4, welcoming guests for a festive, family-friendly experience.
