Before engines roar and dirt flies at the adrenaline-charged Cook Out Monster Truck Bash on Saturday, Aug. 2, students will have the chance to kick off the action with a monster-sized learning adventure of their own during STEAM’s Monster Truck Mania, Friday, Aug. 1, at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
Running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., students in grades 1 through 6 can take part in a full-throttle day of interactive activities where learning meets horsepower. For just $30, students get access to a one-of-a-kind outdoor classroom filled with rocket launches, mini monster truck builds, custom dirt shirts made with colorful chemical reactions and lessons on the science behind simple machines. To top off the day for the ultimate finale, every student can climb into the six-ton beast for the ultimate monster truck ride-along, included with every student registration.
The Monster Truck Mania experience is rooted in the core concepts of STEAM — science, technology, engineering, arts and math — and builds on the foundation of Charlotte Motor Speedway’s nationally recognized STEAM program. Since its launch in 2011, the speedway’s initiative has become the only year-round STEAM platform in motorsports, expanding from fewer than 600 students in its first year to more than 30,000 in 2024.
“STEAM is all about making learning exciting, and there’s no better way to do that than with the roar of monster trucks and hands-on discovery,” said Babette Huitt, STEAM program manager for Charlotte Motor Speedway. “As we gear up for another year of STEAM learning, this is the perfect way to keep students engaged, inspired and ready to hit the ground running when the school year begins.”
Friday’s STEAM Monster Truck Mania is the ultimate warm-up for Saturday’s main event — the Cook Out Monster Truck Bash, the biggest, baddest and best course of action for fans craving full-throttle thrills. Saturday’s show will present 11 of the sport’s most iconic machines as they go head-to-head in one of the most intense, high-flying competitions of the year.
This year’s Bash promises even more jaw-dropping action with a special twist fans won’t want to miss — the first-time addition of a backflip ramp to the freestyle course. These 12,000-pound machines will have the chance to soar two stories into the air in a stunt that separates the bold from the fearless. Who will take the leap? Find out only at the Cook Out Monster Truck Bash — a true showdown of guts, grit and gravity that fans won’t want to miss.
