Round 2 of Cook Out Summer Shootout delivered a true Race Night Royale, blending high-speed drama and emotional moments at America’s Home for Racing as the racing community gathered to honor the legacy of two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch before turning its attention to a night of on-track chaos and school bus mayhem.

From the opening green flag, competitors battled for bragging rights under the lights, while the fan-favorite Media Mayhem School Bus Race once again stole the spotlight with its signature mix of speed, chaos and unpredictability as drivers rolled the dice for victory.

KYLE BUSCH HONORED; BUNNELL TAKES THE CHECKERED

An emotional pre-race ceremony set the tone for the Master's division as drivers, crews and fans gathered to honor the memory of two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, who was set to compete in this year’s Summer Shootout. Before the field took the green flag, those in attendance observed a moment of silence in recognition of Busch's contributions to motorsports and the lasting mark he left on the racing community.

The tribute continued as Busch's son, and Summer Shootout competitor, Brexton Busch, waved the green flag to start the race, while Kyle's father, Tom Busch, led a missing-man formation, a longstanding motorsports tradition used to honor a fallen member of the racing family.

Busch’s connection to the Cook Out Summer Shootout extends well beyond his NASCAR accomplishments. In recent years, he competed in the Masters Division while also supporting Brexton in his Legend Car success and assisting other drivers throughout the garage area. Following the tribute to his father, Brexton went on to finish second in a hard-fought Young Lions battle.

Tuesday night's competition remained fierce in the Master's division from the drop of the green flag, with the battle for the lead staying tight until Lap 22, when Jesse Bunnell inherited the top spot after Jeff Bolen flipped into the outside wall, triggering the race's second Pro-FABrication caution.

"We've been working so hard," said Bunnell. "I think it's been about 16 years since we've been to Victory Lane, so this one feels good."

Bunnell held on over the closing laps to score the victory. Robby Faggart finished second, followed by Brandon Wrisley in third, Kevin Rollins in fourth and Adam Welch in fifth.

A BUS LOAD OF DRAMA

The fan-favorite Media Mayhem School Bus Race returned to Cook Out Summer Shootout with plenty of action, including a dramatic rollover that brought the crowd to its feet as WGHP's Payton Mannie steered Captain Clutch to victory in her second career bus race.

Before the chaos began, local influencer and Love Is Blind: Charlotte star Amy Tiffany waved the green flag, sending six local media personalities and influencers charging into Turn 1.

Mannie dominated the race in the Captain Clutch bus, taking the lead at the green flag and never looking back. Behind her, WBTV's Jana Angel powered Purple Reign into second after a fierce battle with fellow Love Is Blind participant Johnny McIntyre aboard Rubber Ducky and Charlotte-native @JensenSavannah storming around in the Blue Thunder bus.

The race's defining moment came early when reigning Media Mayhem champion Kasey Funderburg was caught in a battle for first position and saw her Orange Crush bus got a little too literal, tipping onto its side entering Turn 2. Funderburg emerged unharmed, and the race continued after a caution.

On the restart, Mannie remained cool at the wheel of Captain Clutch while Angel secured second and McIntyre waddled home in third. Savannah brought Blue Thunder across the line in fourth, while Charlotte social media influencer Victoria Gamrod guided Baby Beluga to a fifth-place finish.

Also joining in on the Night of Games madness in Victory Lane, Rob Brown (Beginner Bandoleros), Carter Clapp (Bandits), Jackson Jones (Outlaws), Braden Scott (Chargers), Landon Thrasher (Young Lions) and Colton Hale (VP Fuels Semi-Pro) passed go to collect the victory in Round 2. Due to curfew, the Round 2 Pro feature has been postponed until next Tuesday.

NEXT UP:

The action continues Tuesday, June 16, with Round 3's Disco Night. Drivers will be burnin' rubber under the lights as they race to the beat and boogie their way to the finish line in another night of high-speed competition and family fun. Fans who arrive dressed in their best disco attire will receive $5 off admission at the gate.
