Giovanni Bromante traveled from Long Island, New York, for his first year in the Bojangles' Summer Shootout, where he's taken control of the Legend Car Young Lions division. Bromante, who got into racing as a five-year-old competing in go karts in New York, has a history of being in the spotlight, so he's no stranger to stardom.

He was featured in "Kart Life," a 2015 truTV reality show about kart racers, but Bromante's opening act at Charlotte Motor Speedway has been even more impressive. He has three wins in the Legend Car Young Lions division this season and is a title contender as a newcomer to the world's premier grassroots racing extravaganza.

Bromante's early success in a Legend Car surprised the 12-year-old hotshoe, who said there are major differences between kart racing on road courses and Legend Car racing on Charlotte Motor Speedway's frontstretch quarter-mile.

"It's a lot harder, because I thought racing on an oval would be easy, but it's a whole different story when you're on track," Bromante said. "The turns are so off-camber and you have to make sure your car doesn't get loose going in. It's all mental."

With the season-ending Rounds 9 and 10 of the Bojangles' Summer Shootout coming up next week, Bromante has the right mentality and is looking forward to a promising future.

"I'm going to go up to Pro next year and I'll be testing late model stock cars," he said. "We'll just keep on moving up, and see where I can go. I want to end up in Sprint Cup."
