Tom Vesey has been named Charlotte Motor Speedway's 2015 Employee of the Year. Presented annually, the award recognizes an individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty in executing his or her responsibilities.

The winner is determined by a vote of the speedway's executive committee and is selected from Employee of the Month award recipients presented throughout the previous 12 months and voted on by their peers.

"Tom is one of the most dedicated and hard-working people at the speedway and is truly deserving of the Employee of the Year honor," said Doug Cremer, vice president of events for Charlotte Motor Speedway. "His attention to detail and note-taking are second to none, and he always works to make each event better than the previous."

A lifelong race fan, Vesey attended Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Management with a concentration in Motorsports Management in 2008.

During his time at Belmont Abbey, Vesey worked as an intern in Charlotte Motor Speedway's Guest Services and Logistics department and later on a rotating assignment between Corporate Sales, Guest Services and Logistics and Speedway Motorsports, Inc.'s National Sales departments.

Following his internships, Vesey continued working during events until he was hired full-time in September 2011. Originally hired as the Event Operations Coordinator, Vesey was responsible for parking, shuttles and trams and event setup/teardown. He also served as a liaison between the speedway and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and North Carolina Department of Transportation to facilitate traffic ingress/egress during major events.

In January 2014, Vesey was promoted to Manager of Guest Services, where his responsibilities include overseeing security and parking across the 2,200-acre speedway property and serving as a liaison between the speedway and all federal, state and local authorities who lend support during events. During major event weekends, Vesey is responsible for more the 400 event-staff security guards, 200 event-staff parking attendants, and serves as a direct contact for all federal, state and local authorities.

As this year's Employee of the Year, Vesey received a trip to Las Vegas for the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony on Dec. 4, among other perks.

"I think I was in a bit of shock," Vesey said of learning about the recognition. "After I started to think about it for a few minutes, my first thought was I am going to get a chance to see Jeff Gordon give his final driver's speech at the awards banquet in Vegas."
